Julian has been a vet for over 20 years, predominantly working in his beloved Yorkshire. Much of his professional career was spent at the original “James Herriot” surgery in Thirsk.

Since 2015, Julian has been the titular character in Channel 5’s hit TV series The Yorkshire Vet. With its regular viewing figures topping the channel’s charts and its international appeal, this TV series really has captured the hearts of animal lovers all over the world.

Julian has written three books about his life, his work as a vet and some of his experiences whilst being on television. Horses, Heifers and Hairy Pigs: The Life of a Yorkshire Vet, A Yorkshire Vet Through the Seasons and The Diary of a Yorkshire Vet have been popular and have been described as “warm and heartfelt stories and amusing anecdotes from life as a vet in God’s own country”.

Julian also writes a weekly column for The Yorkshire Post and a Sunday paper. In 2017 he was the recipient of The Dalesman award for “Yorkshireman of the Year”.

When he is not being a vet, making television programmes, or writing, Julian is a keen athlete, competing in Ski Mountaineering races in the alps and has represented Team GB in Middle Distance Triathlon and long course dualthon at European level.

He currently is working in a Boroughbridge where the Herriot tradition continues.
